Alsace
Alsace is above all a friendly and generous place. Here the way to the heart pass by the stomach, not only on men. Taste specialities such as spätzle, baeckeoffe, flamekuche and sauerkraut and enjoy with a local beer or a white, fresh wine.
The wine, it is. Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Sylwaner, Muscat, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir… Get to know the different grapes and their characteristics. The best way to do so is to take a tour along the wine route that stretches out from north of Strasbourg to Colmar in the south. Along your way the viticulturists open their doors and tell you about their wines before letting you taste them.
After having changed nationality from French to German and back again several times the Alsatians have developed their own language. The Alsatian is a mix of French and German. Spellings can change from place to place, but the overall approach is « on se comprend » - we understand each other. Maybe this is why the European Parliament is situated in Strasbourg!
Strasbourg is the Alsatian capital, only 2h20 from Paris with the high speed train TGV and is well worth a visit. With its astonishing cathedral and the old town with timber framed houses – Petite France (Little France) the city is since 1988 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strasbourg’s geographic situation has made it to an excellent hub for international meetings and seminars. The town has various conference possibilities.
The christmas market exists since 1570 and attracts thousands of visitors each year. From end of November until christmas you can stroll among the cottages and enjoy beautiful lace decorations, woodcuts and all kinds of cribs. If you get cold we suggest that you sit down with a glass of vin chaud in a cosy winstub.
